How I Grew my Instagram
I haven’t written a blog post in a while, mostly because I’ve been very invested in growing my instagram and other social media platforms. For a while, I sort of let my instagram fall by the wayside. Let’s be honest, I’m a writer not a content creator, but it’s just the simple truth that this day in age, you need to be both. I’m sure there are examples of people who were able to make it in their respective industries even without the boost of a thriving social media presence, but I’d venture to say those examples are far and few in between. For us normal folks, social media accounts are a must.
I was growing very discouraged by my lack of growth online, so a few months ago, I revamped my approach. Imagine my surprise when my efforts worked! I went from 127 followers to over 4000 within a couple of months. And I’m still growing! I’m really not one to gatekeep, so I’d like to share what I’ve done, and will continue to do, to continue growing. Hopefully someone will find this information helpful.
POST DAILY!!! I resisted this rule so much, simply because it takes a lot of time to come up with a high quality post. It takes time to film the video, edit the video, capture a thumbnail, write a caption, and finally schedule it across my accounts. But this is just what it takes to gain followers.
Invest in the best recording equipment you can afford. I know recording equipment can be very expensive, but even if you can only purchase one thing at a time, it’s better than nothing. Currently, I use the following equipment.
Microphone: Hollyland Lark M2 Wireless Microphone
Lighting: NEEWER RL-18 New Version 18 Inch LED Ring Light
Camera: iphone 16 Pro
Gimbal: iSteady V3 Foldable Gimbal Stabilizer
Editing: CapCut
Write down your post ideas. Scroll through booktok and bookstagram. When you come across a post that looks like fun, or looks like something you could recreate, write it down. I also write down every weird thought that pops into my head if I think it might make good content down the road. Not everything gets created, but it's good to have options.
If you are a writer, consider blending your writing content with bookish content. This approach won’t work for everyone, but I happen to actually be an avid fantasy/romantasy reader. I love feminine rage books. I love when the enemies become lovers. I love coffee and ghosts. These are all topics that get picked up by the algorithm quickly. If your love for this stuff is authentic, consider blending it in with your writing content to create an account that is a little more marketable and algorithmically friendly. Again, don’t pretend to love something you don’t, but if you happen to be a fan of booktokish content, I say go for it!
Repost content in your story. I don’t have time to make a bunch of content both for my story and for my actual page. Keep your story alive by reposting other creators’ content. They benefit by getting a shoutout and a boost in the algorithm, and you benefit by having an active story.
Well, there you have it. Those are my top five instagram growth tips. I hope anyone who reads this finds something useful that they can implement. It’s a crazy world out there for writers and other creatives, and I really do believe we’re better together, so I will always do what I can to share information that I have found helpful. Wishing everyone the best of luck on their social media journeys!
